Meet the Doctor

Dr. Chris Reid

Dr. Reid has always enjoyed helping people. When he learned about a natural approach to healthcare called Chiropractic, he had found his passion.

At the age of 24, Dr. Reid, at the time a practicing Civil Engineer, began to experience health problems and constant pain for the first time, having recurrent headaches, and severe, stabbing low back and leg pain. Knowing of no other avenues of help for his condition, Dr. Reid sought relief via the standard care of the time - medical care. He was evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon, and a CAT Scan was performed, revealing a bulging disc in his low back. He was put on muscle relaxers, pain and anti-inflammatory meds, and was referred to a physical therapist for exercises. The stabbing pain persisted.

He saw an Internal Medicine physician for his headaches. X-rays were performed, which were negative, and he was told by the physician that he was "too young to have headaches"! Again, no answers.

Dr. Reid was very frustrated. He felt like, "if this is what I feel like now, how am I going to feel in 10 years, or 20?!" Motivated to improve his current condition, Dr. Reid began to fight through the pain, increasing his weight training exercise, and he began training for triathlons. He also became interested in researching nutrition and vitamin therapy. Although he made some very positive changes in his life with exercise, nutrition and vitamin therapy, his symptoms persisted...there was still something missing.

In 1986, at the age of 26, Dr. Reid moved to San Diego, California. Shortly after his move, he met a 1984 Olympic runner, who introduced him to her Chiropractor and sports therapist. He also discovered through his new friend that a majority of the Olympic athletes, professional athletes, and professional triathletes living in the Southern California area were being treated with chiropractic care on a regular "wellness"-type basis; similar, as she said, to dental care. She noted that Chiropractic care helped them (the athletes) perform at their optimum capability, keeping their bodies finely tuned.

Knowing nothing about Chiropractic, but very intrigued and curious, Dr. Reid sought the help of her Chiropractor. It was truly a life-changing event for him. His headaches and stabbing low back and leg pain disappeared, and he regrew an inch in height that he had lost during his battle with his low back pain. Dr. Reid was amazed and ecstatic to realize that he was able to achieve these results WITHOUT the use of drugs, or surgery. He had finally found the missing piece of his puzzle, in the form of Chiropractic health care. With chiropractic care, proper nutrition and vitamin therapy, and regular exercise, Dr. Reid had laid the foundation for optimal health in his life.

Dr. Reid saw a great need for this type of awareness and care in his home area of Central Illinois, where he was born and raised. At 31 years old, he moved his family back to his hometown of Springfield, IL, and then returned to school at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. He earned his Doctorate Degree of Chiropractic, and has been in practice in Springfield, IL since 1997.

An avid learner, Dr. Reid has continued his pursuit of excellence, attaining post-graduate certifications as a Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition, as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and in Acupuncture and Active Release Technique (ART).
